Stud bolts DIN 976

DIN 976 stud bolts are short threaded rods without a tool receptacle or head – this distinguishes them from screws. Often also referred to as threaded rods or threaded pieces, stud bolts usually have a continuous metric external thread that can be screwed directly into a metal thread. They are fastened with a nut. Since this is screwed onto the bolt, it creates a connection with high tensile strength that does not break easily under tension. DIN 976 stud bolts can therefore be used as a stronger substitute for screws and to bridge distances between two components. Connecting sleeves can be used to connect several stud bolts for a longer thread.

Applications for DIN 976 stud bolts

DIN 976 stud bolts are used in a wide range of applications. They are especially common in industrial manufacturing – for example, in automotive engineering and mechanical and structural engineering – wherever there are connections that must withstand high loads. Their standardized metric threads ensure compatibility with other standard components, allowing efficient use as well as repairs, since the quality, strength, and surface treatment as well as the dimensions, weights, thread pitches and tolerances for standard-length stud bolts are precisely defined in DIN 976-1.

Threaded rods are also used in the construction industry; for example, they are often cemented into walls as anchors for wall boards. They can also be easily welded to workpieces.

DIN 976 type A and B: What’s the difference? 

DIN 976 stud bolts are available in type A or type B versions, which are specified for all nominal lengths. Type A variants do not have a crest at the end of the thread. DIN 976 type B stud bolts have a flat point and are flattened and rounded, allowing them to be screwed flush with the threaded hole. Titan exclusively supplies type A stud bolts.
