Shoulder Screws
Shoulder screws are screws with a metric screw head at one end and a wood screw thread at the other. Instead of starting directly at the screw head, the latter only starts below the smooth part of the shaft. The self-tapping thread can be screwed into wood or anchored in a dowel. A nut can be applied to create a screw connection on the standard thread – similar to hanger bolts. Shoulder screws are used as wood fasteners, e.g., to attach components to wood as well as masonry and concrete. The threadless shaft can be inserted into the drill hole with no or minimal play – an important factor in mechanical, vehicle, and plant engineering (for example). Other common applications for shoulder screws are frictional and positive-locking connections for rotating components, for example at joints.
